SoSueMe.ie's 1st Birthday Bash

On Friday, the 15th of July, I attended the 1st Birthday Bash of SoSueMe.ie - the blog written by Suzanne Jackson which includes showbiz, fashion and gossip features. The party took place in the Grafton Lounge and I wanted to go along and meet Suzanne as I had featured on the blog a few months previously as the "Hottie of the Week".

Ian Keegan was kind enough to come along with me. You may remember Ian as one of the photographers from the Dublin Zombie Walk Promotional Photo Shoot.

Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with the new sparkling alcoholic drink "Eve" and a goodie bag which included beauty products from Dove and Bourjois as well as vouchers for the Ivory Closet and MakeupFabLicious, among others. The event also saw boyband "On The Edge" performing.

What I wore
I wore a Rachel Gilbert peach dress from the Ivory Closet with silver stud detailing. The Ivory Closet were also sponsoring the party in the form of money-off vouchers in the gift bags. I had also gotten my hair highlighted and trimmed earlier that day in the Salon Hair & Beauty IFSC

Mustang Jeans SS2012 Collection Preview

On Thursday, the 14th of July, I attended the Mustang Jeans SS2012 Collection Preview in the Lost Society with Ali Ryan, showbiz reporter for the Herald and author of Maggie Red Blog.

The event's main feature was a fashion show which saw former Miss World Rossanna Davison, Miss Universe Ireland 2010 Roz Purcell, Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model Contestant Hannah Devane and Pippa O'Connor modelling the collection. Nikki Hayes was also there to DJ the afters.

What I wore
Ali and I both wore dresses from our favourite designer dress hire boutique - the Ivory Closet on Shannon Street in Limerick.

Check out Miss Red's Seriously Social segment on the event here.

Morning Star Rose Competition at the Bruff Summer Festival

At this stage, I have had the pleasure of attending quite a few events with members of the Bruff Community. It all began with the Cliona Ring Foundation Commemorative Night, then there was the documentary the ILoveLimerick.com and I filmed about the Cliona Ring Foundation in Lough Gur, the Pier One Facebook Party in aid of the CRF, the Bruff RFC Dinner Dance and the Lourdescycle.com BBQ.

Most recently, I attended the Bruff Summer Festival which took place on the 2nd and 3rd of July. The Festival is an annual event, a feature of which is the selection of the Morning Star Rose. I was honoured to be asked by the 2010 Rose, Eibhlin O'Sullivan, to judge the competition along with PJ O'Gorman and invited my friend and model Madeline Mulqueen along to join us as a third judge.

The Morning Star Rose Competition involved a sit-down interview with the eighteen contestants in Clancy's Pub on the Saturday, followed by a meal before we moved down the village to the stage area where half of the contestants were interviewed on-stage by Edel McEniry, the original Morning Star Rose. All four of the past Roses were involved in the event which was a very nice touch and they were so accommodating. The other contestants were interviewed on stage the following evening. Friday evening saw a parade which featured all of the contestants.

Madeline, PJ and I had great fun meeting and chatting to the contestants. We had such a tough time picking our winner but decided to choose Aoife Power, an absolute stunner and Pharmacy student who impressed the crowd with her violin playing. A huge congratulations to Aoife.

Some beautiful flowers I was presented with
What I wore
On Saturday, I wore a summery, orange dress with gold embellishment and rope detail from the Ivory Closet. On Sunday, I wore another dress from the Ivory Closet - this time, a white and sequinned number teamed with my Carol Shaw Jewellery crown.

Aware's Volunteer Open Day

At the start of June, Aware held its first ever Volunteer Open Day.

The Open Day was designed to show the different ways in which one can volunteer for Aware (the charity that aims to defeat depression in Ireland which I have been a supporter of for the past year) and took place in no. 5 South Leinster Street, Dublin - a part of the National Gallery of Ireland which would remind you of Limerick's Georgian House (where the networking event "This is Limerick" took place).

Upon arrival, visitors were provided with a welcome pack which contained information on the huge varieties of opportunities for volunteers. They were invited to take a seat in the magnificent conference room to have a look though the options, ranging from roles that require only a few hours volunteering per year (e.g. Aware 10K Run; Daisy Days) to roles within Aware’s support services which require a weekly commitment of 2-3 hours. They could then continue to the next room which was filled with volunteers from the various areas including fundraising, the online support groups, the Aware charity shop and the lo-call helpline to name a few. There was also tea, coffee and biscuits available. I was there to greet people as they arrived, mingle with the potential volunteers and to share my experience of volunteering with Aware.

The day was a great success that saw over 100 visitors arriving within the first few hours.

If you are interested in volunteering with Aware, then please take the time to read the following few paragraphs taken from the Aware website which you can visit by clicking here:

Ongoing Opportunities

Helpline
Volunteers needed for our Dublin-based loCall helpline listening service (open 365 days a year). Next closing date for applications is September 20, with interviews and training following shortly afterwards.
Commitment: Approx. 20 hours of classroom training, 15hrs of practical training and 3 hours shadowing a support group. Once trained, volunteers are required to cover one three-hour slot at least every week. Apply now.

Online Support Groups
Our online support group service needs facilitators. Psychiatric training is not required - if you are a good listener who can empathise well with people, we'd love to hear from you. Both new facilitators and those already trained for our real-world support groups are welcome.

Support Groups
Aware has a network of depression support groups that take place throughout the country, with each meeting run by trained facilitators. We are particularly looking for people in Mullingar, Cavan and Dundalk to help develop groups in those areas - call Anne on 086 162 9948 for more information. All applications welcome, however!
Commitment: Initial training with follow-up training workshops. Support groups meet weekly and facilitators are usually required on a weekly/fortnightly basis. Apply now.

Email support service
Aware offers depression support by email. Next closing date for applications is October 17, with interviews and training following shortly afterwards.

Aware Publication
Aware is currently developing a new publication to keep service users, supporters and friends of the organisation informed about news and developments. We may be looking for contributors some time from June onwards so watch this space for information on appropriate articles, editorial guidelines, etc. We look forward to bringing you our new and improved publication in the summer!
